Postpartum Doula Services
We believe that parenting a newborn with confidence and knowledge can present itself as a challenge. A postpartum doula is an extra set of hands for when you need them most, and a good doula will also teach you how to manage without her. A postpartum doula is different than a house cleaner (who helps a lot around the home) or baby nurse (who may have sole care of the baby)- a postpartum doula is there to provide hands-on help and instruction in newborn care.
A postpartum doula will also spend time listening and asking questions, offering emotional support to the mum and her family. She builds confidence in the parents by demonstrating newborn care and encouraging the parents in their capabilities of caring for their baby. She can teach skills like bathing, infant hygiene, infant wearing, reading infant cues and calming a crying baby. She offers evidence-based informational support, not just her opinion pertaining to newborn care issues. In addition she can help with light housework around the home so that you may concentrate on your new baby.
Shanghai Doula’s Postpartum Doulas are also Certified Lactation Education Counsellors, and are trained to assist you with all aspects of breastfeeding.
The primary goal as a postpartum doula is to work herself out of a job by empowering you, the parents, to take on the full responsibility of being new parents and embracing your evolving family.
Shanghai Doula is pleased to provide you with a range of Postpartum Doula Packages to best suit you:

Birth Debriefing Services
Regardless of how your birth unfolded, we all sometimes feel the need to discuss our birth experiences.
Shanghai Doula is now offering Birth Debriefing Services, a private consultation during which you may discuss your birthing experience, ask questions about events or procedures, and voice any lingering concerns or worries you may have about what happened at the birth of your baby.
This service can be particularly beneficial to women or suffering from postpartum depression, those who have had unplanned c-sections and for women (and couples) who’s labour and birth just didn’t go as they had expected.
Birth Debriefing visits are RMB 650 for a private two-hour in-home consultation. Payment is due at the end of each appointment, and packages of three visits for RMB 1,600 may be purchased at the initial consultation.
Please note: this is a service for talking through your birth in a safe, confidential and non-judgemental environment. This is not a formal counselling service and, although we can provide some resources you may find useful, we cannot provide medical assessments.
