Shanghai Doula is pleased to announce that we are now offering Midwife conducted postpartum mother and baby well visits.  We offer in-home clinical midwifery care to support optimal postpartum recovery for mothers, a healthy start for infants, and lactation assistance for establishing a happy breastfeeding relationship.

Care is provided by Alison Nantz, who is a Certified Professional Midwife (CPM) and Certified Lactation Educator Counselor (CLEC). Alison received her training through the National College of Midwifery in the United States and has delivered 84 babies and been a part of over 300 births.

Each Postpartum visit covers comprehensive well-care for both infants and their mothers.

Each visit includes the following for newborns:
1) Status of the umbilical cord and clamp
2) Vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiratory rate, lungs)
3) Weight gain
4) Skin color – evaluation of skin rashes
5) Feeding, hydration status, and elimination
6) Sleep/wake patterns
7) Bonding and family response to the baby's needs

Each visit includes the following for mothers:
1) General well-being and emotional temper
2) Vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiratory rate, blood pressure)
3) Nutrition and elimination
4) Perineum/sutures/incision
5) Lochia/bleeding
6) Fundus/afterpains

Additional assessments made for breastfeeding and family well-being:
1) Breastfeeding evaluation, education and support
2) Addressing the concerns of the family.

Fees
Mother and Baby visits are RMB 750 for our two-hour in-home postpartum appointment (price may vary depending on location); payment is due at the end of each appointment.

Shanghai Doula also offers mom and baby home visits focusing primarily on breastfeeding support. We also have a Baby Care Advisor available to do home visits to help you with any concerns you may have regarding general baby care, day-to-day routines and issues that can arise in the newborn period and into the first year of life.
