Shanghai Doula Classes
Shanghai Doula is pleased to announce that we are now offering several different childbirth preparation classes including, our Childbirth Education Class series, Breastfeeding Classes, and Baby Care Classes. We hope that through these classes we will be able to better serve women and families here in Shanghai. All of our classes are available for private bookings or group classes.
Childbirth Education Classes
Our Childbirth Education classes are a 12 hour series taught in four, three hour classes. These classes are available by appointment. Please contact: info@shanghaidoula.com
What will be covered?
Shanghai Doula's Childbirth Education Classes will cover a variety of topics including: Understanding Labor, Preparing for Labor, Pregnancy Anatomy, Comfort Measures, Breathing, Relaxation, Massage, Interventions, Decision Making, Breastfeeding, Life with a Newborn, Newborn Care, and much more.
Why Our Classes Are Unique
There are many reasons why Shanghai Doula's private childbirth education classes are unique. Our classes are one of the few "series" options you will find in Shanghai. There are several benefits of "series" classes. The first benefit is that series classes cover a broad range of topics and more time over a four-session period to discuss your potential questions in more depth. A second benefit to our private series classes is the opportunity to tailor the emphasis of the information given to meet the client’s individual birth desires and needs. This setup also provides a more intimate atmosphere where people may find it easier to open up and ask questions. Lastly, couples have the chance to state what topics they would like to emphasize in the class and then the instructor has the opportunity to prepare answers to questions and offer further information in a following class.
Another unique aspect of our classes is how they are taught. Our classes are designed to be highly interactive and evidence based. Our classes are discussion oriented. We also spend quite a bit of time on role-play so you and your husband can learn what works for you in different scenarios and at different times in labor. Less than 40% of our classes are lecture. This is because we believe people learn in a variety of ways that include, seeing, hearing, and doing. Our classes promote active participation that makes our time together fly by.
We use a variety of mediums in our classes including printed material (each couple will be given a workbook), videos, and hands-on learning tools. Our teachers are well educated and unbiased. They care deeply about the needs of their clients and are committed to providing the best care and education possible.

Fees
Private classes start at 3,500 per couple. If several couples are interested in booking a class together the group fee lowers to 2,500 per couple.
Breastfeeding Class
Although breastfeeding is instinctive for our babies, it's not instinctive for mothers! Having tips and tricks are essential for mother and baby satisfaction and success. Our breastfeeding class is a single session three-hour class. These classes are available for booking as private or group classes. This class covers basic techniques and positioning to concerns and potential complications.
Topics include:
Basic anatomy and physiology of lactation, early attachment of the baby, hospital care, common concerns and solutions, common myths about breastfeeding, tools for working mothers, support and resources in Shanghai.
This class is highly interactive, with the opportunity to role-play, discuss and ask questions. This class is not only applicable to first time moms but any mom who has an interest in learning more about breastfeeding, and perhaps had a more difficult prior experience. We hope to equip mothers with tools for improving the experience and having breastfeeding success.

Baby Care Class
Many parents arrive home from the hospital excited but lacking the confidence and experience to enjoy caring for their newborn. Our Baby Care Class covers everything from feeding and sleeping schedules, burping and settling techniques, bathing and ways to overcome common problems.
The two-hour class is highly interactive and discussion-based, allowing for a lot of Q&A time.
